Winning with Aspen Simulation Workbook™
During our recent free web trial of Aspen Simulation Workbook,
users were invited to submit success stories for the Aspen
Simulation Workbook Challenge. AspenTech is pleased to announce two
winning companies, each of which won a one-year free standalone
license for Aspen Simulation Workbook.
Each winning company developed a solution using Aspen Simulation
Workbook to address a specific issue in their plant operations.
Aspen HYSYS® Winner: Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd
(HPCL)
The Aspen HYSYS application winner came from Hindustan Petroleum
Corp Ltd (HPCL). The HPCL Mumbai Refinery needed to reduce steam
consumption while maintaining the RVP of the naphtha stabilizer
column. Using Aspen Simulation Workbook, Mumbai Refinery engineers
created an online plant performance monitoring application linking
their plant's real-time database with an Aspen HYSYS model of the
plant, with regular lab updates for composition.
In the past engineers monitored their plant performance
manually, which was cumbersome and infrequent. With Aspen
Simulation Workbook, they can now monitor the plant online and
continuously, delivering frequent guidance to a larger operational
staff that might not be familiar with Aspen HYSYS. Reported
benefits include significant reduction in steam consumption and
improved product quality.
AspenPlus® Winner: Larsen & Toubro Ltd
(L&T)
The Aspen Plus application winner came from Larsen & Toubro Ltd
(L&T). The business problem they addressed using Aspen
Simulation Workbook had to do with the separation of mixed xylenes
from heavy reformate steam. They have several new units coming up
and needed a means to quickly study the effect of different
operating conditions. Using Aspen Simulation Workbook, L&T was
able to perform 'what if' analysis much easier and quickly design
column internals as well as various equipment.
Commenting on additional benefits of Aspen Simulation Workbook,
Mr. Krishnan of L&T stated: "It is a useful application for
changing the parameters within the Excel spreadsheet. It neatly
eliminates the need to go back to the process modeler for input
changes, and enables non-simulation users to leverage the process
model without a working knowledge of the simulator."
We thank everyone that participated in the contest. Continue
using Aspen Simulation Workbook to drive maximum value from your
simulation models. If you have not yet obtained a copy, please
