Aspen HYSYS Dynamics™
Integrated dynamic simulation of oil & gas, gas processing, petroleum refining, and other industry processes
Aspen HYSYS Dynamics extends Aspen HYSYS® steady-state models into dynamic process models, enabling design and verification of process control schemes, safety studies, relief valve sizing, failure analysis, and development of startup, shutdown, and operating mode changes. Aspen HYSYS Dynamics is a core element of AspenTech’s aspenONE® Process Engineering applications.
Features
- Easy conversion of steady-state Aspen HYSYS models into dynamic models in an integrated steady state and dynamic modeling environment, enabling leverage of modeling efforts across multiple engineering activities.
- Comprehensive unit operations include distillation, reactions, heat transfer operations, rotating equipment, controller, and logical operations. The unit operation models are scalable in rigor, supporting multiple levels of detail in equipment geometry or configuration to increase the level of fidelity of applications (e.g., operator training systems). The enhanced holdup model reliably predicts material inventory and dynamic response of process operations.
- Pressure-flow dynamics provide quick and accurate simulation of “real-world” dynamic behavior. Proven to deliver quality realistic results and handle various situations such as vessel emptying or overflowing and reverse flow.
- Rich set of control functionality supports process control and detailed process monitoring. Includes a suite of controllers and various logical operations, as well as an interface to the Aspen DMCplus® advanced process control system.
- Enhanced functionality such as cause-and-effect matrices and an event scheduler, which are ideal for start-up/shut-down sequencing and flowsheet automation.
- OLE automation/ActiveX compliance permits the integration of user-created unit operations, proprietary reaction kinetic expressions, and specialized property packages. Interfaces easily with programs such as Microsoft® Excel and Visual Basic.
- Dynamics extensibility allows for increased simulation functionality through seamless integration of proprietary custom unit operation models.
Options
- Aspen HYSYS Upstream™ enables dynamic modeling of oil & gas production processes. Aspen HYSYS Dynamics capabilities are greatly enhanced through the use of other optional products for transient pipeline hydraulics calculations, including links to third-party packages, such as SPT Group’s OLGA. This enables simulation of transient multiphase flow of oil, water, and gas in wells and pipelines.
- Aspen Simulation Workbook™ enables easy development of Excel-based user interfaces to Aspen HYSYS Dynamics (V2006.5 and beyond), allowing broad deployment to casual users in the field.
Benefits
Aspen HYSYS Dynamics is a proven, industry-standard solution with over 15 years of use in the field. Customers have recognized and reported:
- $15 million savings through improved and faster start-up procedures
- $10 million capital cost savings by avoiding over-design of relief systems
- Improved process safety through better operational procedures, improved control system design, and proper relief-valve sizing
- Better design decisions through detailed analysis of the trade-offs between process operability and process integration
