FluBed - Fluidized Bed Dryer Simulation
FluBed carries out design, scale-up and performance calculations
for fluidized bed dryers, FluBed handles batch, well-mixed and
plug-flow continuous units. The main design and simulation
procedure is based on scaling a batch drying curve. You can explore
the effect of changing gas velocity, bed depth, inlet gas
temperature and humidity, moisture content and other variables.
There is also a simplified scoping design section that makes a
rough estimate of the bed area using a psychrometric chart.
There is a simplified scoping design section that makes a rough
estimate of the bed area using a psychrometric chart. The main
design and simulation procedure is based on scaling a batch drying
curve. FLUBED then calculates the bed area in design mode, given
the solids feedrate and inlet/outlet moisture contents, or the
maximum predicted solids throughput in performance mode for an
existing dryer. The user can explore the effect of changing gas
velocity, bed depth, inlet gas temperature and humidity, moisture
content and other variables.
Input data includes gas and liquid properties (database supplied
with the program), batch drying kinetics, equilibria and
fluidisation data. Mixed units and conversions are automatically
taken care of by the program. Pilot plant data, where available,
can refine the calculations. The results display includes a tabular
printout, a schematic flowsheet and a psychrometric chart. Help
screens to guide the user through the technology, by reference to
the Process Manual - Drying technical
area, are available at all stages at the touch of a
key.
