Technical Presentation: Application of a Real-Time Dynamic Model-Based Production System for Operations and Surveillance of Oil & Gas Gathering Networks
The increasing challenge for oil and gas operating companies is overall profitability through improved hydrocarbon recovery and reduced operating costs. A key way to investigate methodologies of how these key business imperatives can be achieved is through modelling. However, operators are often overwhelmed with the vast amount information that they receive from diverse sources such as downhole instruments, surface SCADA and DCS systems. Their task is daunting when it comes to translating this information overload into actionable items delivered in time for critical decision making.
AspenTech’s Wim van Wassenhove will be presenting a paper showing how information is used to create real-time models so that not only the understanding of an overall system is improved but opportunities are created to explore alternatives without risk to the facilities. Using the Alaskan Oooguruk oil field as the example, Wim will show how successful modelling, run off-line, can be used as a tool to predict future behaviour given initial conditions or to run “what –if” scenarios.
The paper presented by Wim is co-authored by A. Alva-Argaez, J. Holoboff from Canadian-based Process Ecology and D. Cutting, from US-based Pioneer Natural Resources.
